Luis A. Gandara, MD, is a board-certified primary care sports medicine physician with Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute. Primary Care Sports Medicine

Using a non-surgical approach, he treats patients with acute injuries such as fractures, muscle strain, knee and shoulder injuries and more. He also cares for those with osteoarthritis as well as common overuse injuries like tendinitis and stress fractures.

PRP and Ultrasound-Guided Injections

Dr. Gandara specializes in platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, for healing damaged tissue. This therapy uses a patient’s own platelets injected into the affected area to improve or speed healing. PRP also may help with ongoing pain, particularly that related to tendon injuries and "wear and tear."

Ultrasound-guided injections are one method for administering PRP. With use of an ultrasound, Dr. Gandara can pinpoint tendon damage and "see" the needle as it enters the body to accurately inject the PRP into the precise location. Dr. Gandara also performs ultrasound guided steroid injections for the hip joint, shoulder joint and other body parts.
