Adam S. Fenichel, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with the Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute. He specializes in the treatment of arthritis, fractures, carpal tunnel syndrome and more affecting the hands and upper extremities.

Hand Specialist

As patients with conditions and injuries of the hand begin to experience severe pain, loss of mobility and diminished quality of life, they may need the care and experience of a hand specialist such as Dr. Fenichel.

After carefully evaluating each patient’s situation, Dr. Fenichel may recommend nonsurgical treatments prior to a decision to proceed with surgery. Treatments may include physical therapy, prescription medication management and injections. If non-surgical options do not lead to improvement, Dr. Fenichel will review next steps with his patient and determine if surgery is the solution for them.

Arthroscopic and Reconstructive Surgery

Depending on his patient’s needs and condition, Dr. Fenichel may recommend arthroscopic or reconstructive surgery to aid in a return to an active, pain-free lifestyle. Details of these surgical options include:

  • Arthroscopic surgery is less invasive than traditional surgery and involves inserting tiny surgical instruments through small incisions to repair or remove damaged areas. Typically this results in less pain and faster healing.
  • Reconstructive surgery is often an effective treatment for repairing damaged joints and restoring function for patients suffering from severe forms of arthritis and experiencing pain, joint deformity and mobility issues.

Dr. Fenichel’s Training

Dr. Fenichel earned his medical and undergraduate degrees from the University of Florida in Gainesville. He then completed his internship in general surgery and residency in orthopedic surgery at Washington University Barnes Hospital in St. Louis; a fellowship in pediatric orthopedic surgery at Shriner's Hospital for Children, St. Louis and fellowship in hand and microvascular surgery at the University of California, San Diego.

About Dr. Fenichel

Dr. Fenichel enjoys caring for patients and establishes long term relationships with many of them and their families. Patients often recommend friends and family or come back again themselves with additional needs.

In the community, he donates his time as a board member of the Track Shack Youth Foundation, which promotes health and fitness to youth throughout Central Florida.

Dr. Fenichel is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons and has a Certificate of Added Qualification in Hand Surgery
