Dr. Yasser Khaled is the medical director of the bone marrow transplant and cellular therapy program at the Orlando Health Cancer Institute. He is board-certified in hematology and specializes in cellular therapy and blood and bone marrow transplantation. His areas of expertise include:

  • Bone marrow transplants (autologous, allogeneic, cord blood and haploidentical)
  • Bispecific antibodies
  • CAR-T cell therapy
  • Acute leukemia/myelodysplastic syndrome treatment
  • Cellular therapy lab (on-site collection facility and cell manipulation)
  • Extracorporeal photopheresis for the treatment of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, graft versus host disease and lung transplant rejection

Dr. Khaled’s Training

Dr. Khaled received his medical training at Cairo University School of Medicine in Egypt. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Woodhull Medical Center in New York. Dr. Khaled also completed fellowships in medical oncology at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, in hematology at New York Medical College in Valhalla and in blood and bone marrow transplantation at the University of Texas / MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

About Dr. Khaled

Dr. Khaled is board-certified in hematology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Before joining Orlando Health, Dr. Khaled served as medical director of the Blood and Marrow Transplant Center at Methodist Le Bonheur Health Care in Memphis. In less than four years, he led the program to a top 10 percent ranking in survival outcomes, according to the National Marrow Donor Program, an independent agency that reviews the outcomes of bone marrow transplant centers in the United States. He also brought the first cellular immune therapy (CAR-T cell) for the treatment of lymphoma and acute leukemia to Memphis and the Mid-South, an achievement that earned him an award as a Memphis Health Care Hero in 2019.

Dr. Khaled has an established research career in stem cell transplantation as principal investigator and co-investigator for multiple industry- and NIH-funded protocols. He also has published extensively in the field of stem cell transplantation with dozens of articles and abstracts.
